Softliv Alum(!) Nan Launches the LIFT Lab at NTU

Happy New Year from Softliv!

We are delighted to announce that Nan is launching his own lab in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. His Laboratory of Interfaces, Fracture, and Transport (LIFT) will explore mechanics at the intersection of fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, soft matter, living systems, and applied mathematics. Through a combination of experiments and modeling, the lab aims to uncover fundamental principles and use them to design next-generation materials and sustainable technologies.

Nan will be greatly missed at Softliv. With his mastery of continuum mechanics, he led multiple projects to success. His curiosity spans disciplines, and his recent work explores living systems as building blocks for materials science. Beyond his scientific excellence, Nan has always been generous with his time and knowledge. Nearly everyone in Softliv has benefited from his help at some point. We are deeply grateful for his professionalism, collegiality, and friendship.

Best of luck, Nan! We wish you every success in this exciting new chapter.

You could be a lucky student, mentored by Professor Xue. He is recruiting two motivated Ph.D. students (fully funded) to join the LIFT lab for the August 2026 intake.

Soon, his office will be filled with science, mathematics, and the joy of discovery.
